I love taking portraits and typically I take traditional portraits (head and shoulder crop, posed, controlled lighting). I know that it’s time for me to step outside of my comfort zone so this week I started to experiment a little bit. My idea was to find different items around my house that could be positioned around my lens to create a frame around my subject. I wanted to produce some creative shots. The first image I created was of my son playing outdoors. Although it’s winter, most of the snow has melted so I used a thick piece of Styrofoam to create the illusion of snow. I cut a hole in the Styrofoam and put it around my lens. I really liked the way it turned out. Some of the other items I used were a sheet of music, a wooden placemat, colourful magnets, and a piece of cardboard (which I set on fire). I had a lot of fun creating this project. Please take a few minutes to check it out on Behance.
